App of the Month! May 2018

This Month, I am looking at an app that teaches Coding. Hold on, don’t click away yet, even the Non-nerdy people out there are going to absolutely love this one!

Google’s internal incubator, Area 120, is responsible for this beauty and it has been a great way of getting students and people interested in coding!
Like other Area 120 projects, Grasshopper was built by a small team of Googlers, who had a personal interest in working on this project. (Area 120 was responsible for Smart Replies among some other projects)

Grasshopper is an extremely easy to follow application that teaches you basic JavaScript right from the start and it’s looks clean and minimalist in it’s design. This clean User interface and easy to follow navigation makes it this Month’s favourite! If you have even the smallest interest in coding and Computing, check out this app! It’s free, quick to get into and yes, it’s even has a notification you can turn on to be reminded about a small daily practice.

Gamification at its best, the app will walk you through key concept such as variables and arrays, one step at a time, before rewarding you with stars, points and awards. The Progression is easy and gradual, yet challenging enough as to not bore!

To mix up the coding puzzles, you will come across quizzes that test some of the concepts learned earlier.

As with everything, the more you practice, the better and the more frequently you practice, the easier it gets! The app is only the beginning as the Goals of Google’s internal incubator, Area 120, seems to be to get you intrested in JavaScript and take on some more challenging projects, which they call ‘Supercharging your Coding’  found here: Link These include courses on Coursera and Bootcamps.

In addition to this they have an Online playground for all your JavaScript exploits: Here
